What is it?

PhotoShipCD is photography based virtual reality ship documentation software. It provides you the ability to easily access interactive pictures of nearly every square foot of a vessel. PhotoShipCD can include thousands of images coupled to the vessel's general arrangement drawings and any other documentation or software desired. It can be delivered as cross platform software (Mac & PC). Written up as a 'Show Stopper,' Workboat Magazine described it this way in their Jan/Feb 1996 issue: "Like a digital stowaway, the viewer can wander from compartment to compartment, looking in any direction they choose."

A variety of picture formats are available:

1. Panoramas (samples);

2. Navigable Objects (samples);

3. Digital Video;

4. Regular flat pictures (like you see in magazines).

How does it work?

After the splash screen goes away, you are presented with one or more key plan or general arrangement drawings of the vessel or location. You can select an area on the drawing to obtain a more detailed drawing or to enter photography based VR at that location. You roam the space using standard QuickTime VR navigation from panorama to panorama and to navigable objects. Current location and graphical direction indicators are displayed. As an option, the space number and name, node number, deck and ship frame can also be displayed. The customer may request that data fields specific to the current view also be displayed. Hot links allow the user to view zoomed in shots of hidden areas, object movies or items of special interest and can allow the user to access documents or other software related to what is in view.

To facilitate communications, utilities exist to allow remote users to easily access the same view.

Additionally, if needed, the source pictures can also be provided digitally to the customer in case they need to use photogrammetry software (like PhotoModeler or PC Giant) to produce a dimensionally accurate 3d drawing of any object or arrangement depicted. However, for the sake of dimensional accuracy, this works best if we do a few extra things before and during the photo shoot.
