I love my family and hence couldn't pass up the opportunity to capture a panorama when almost all had gathered for Grandpa's funeral. Joseph Sulie Broussard was 94 years old when he died October 10, 1997. He was a Cajun French speaking cattle rancher and rice farmer and lived in Cow Island, Louisiana almost all of his life. For three years or so (around 1920), while he was in his teens, he saw the world aboard the USS KANSAS. It was one of his fondest memories. About 10 years ago, Rosemary and I had one of those US Navy baseball caps made with the name and call letters from his ship. We were very touched when Grandpa wore that hat every day for the rest of his life. He was buried with that hat.

I remember visiting Grandpa once and when leaving I asked for directions for the shortest way to Abbeville. I told him I knew how to get there from Kaplan, but it would be longer to go to Kaplan to get to Abbeville. Grandpa said " Ray, most of the time, the shortest way is the way you know."
